Hi
My DS is 3 weeks short of his first birthday. I BF him still now down to 2 a day (first thing morning and last thing night). No periods yet at all. I was thinking of stopping BF as had some recent problems with blocks and sore nipple although sure that will resolve. I'd like to think about ttc #2 (although still to discuss with DP!!) and no periods yet so pretty unlikely (tho not impossible I know) to conceive.

DS has dairy allergy and some have suggested continue BF best for him.

Should I change/ reduce/ stop BF??

Arnt you the lucky one. My periods came straight away when BF dd. What do you really feel you want to do? Do you want to give it up? Why dont you discuss with DP about the next baby before deciding what to do?

With a milk allergy, breast milk is really the best thing for him. The soya stuff is pretty rank, so you might not get him to drink that! You could always cut him down to a couple of feeds a day, one night time and one morning. 1 year-old babies still get enough milk from those 2 feeds without any cows milk.

If you cut down the amount of feeds, you will most likely get your periods back. Mine came back atfter 2 feeds a day, and I was feeding twins, so twice the milk!

However, there's plenty of time for you to get pregnant again. Having 2 under 2 is hard work!

And plus you arnt really meant to give a 12month+ soya. My DD is on alpro soya, but I have to cut her off it now and Im gonna start giving her rice milk topped up with Vitamins.

clothaddict I am THAT woman they all warn you about - fell pg while bfing, before my periods came back. Ds was 15m and at that point still feeding LOTS - dh and I so knackered with frequent night feeds and teething, we were practically having no sex at all! (He will so kill me for saying that, but it's true .) Just to say, it CAN and does happen!

OK!!

I'm in no major rush but just wanted to take as it comes and if 2nd came along then good. Thought maybe stopping BF would mean more likely.

I am 35- 36 this year, and just didn't want to leave too long. Also friends took longer to conceive their 2nd one. Took me 5 months ttc 1st time. I would prefer a 2 year age gap. But bit of me also would maybe like 3 kids so can't wait around forever!!

yeah I totally know what you mean, I will be 40 this year so I was in a hurry too. But ds was such a determined feeder, I couldn't really think about stopping - and didn't really want to, since we were both getting such a lot out of it; I would've quite happily gone til he was 2 even though that would have meant ttc in the lead-up to 40th b'day. But like I said, it CAN just happen! In the end, ds self-weaned when I entered 2nd trimester - in retrospect that should've been one of my clues.

phd- did you not know you were pregnant then? Congrats.
