my 4 month old has suddenly lost all interest in bottles and milk. can manage to get a few ounces down her but its a battle - her screaming, pushing bottle away etc. was never a fussy feeder before. I knwo she must be hungry as not had anything for hours. My mum said she might be ready for some baby rice/real food but ive been told not to wean beofre 6 months - what do people think????

I'd stick with the waiting to 6 mths.
Could she have really painful wind or be teething?

CMOTdibbler · 18/03/2009 20:56

I think it's probably teething.

Try some teething powders/Bonjela, and leave the baby rice/solids till your DD is 6 months

if she was hiungry she'd be feeding more, not less.

far more likely to be teething or something like that.l

if she is refusing milk, the only food she knows, I doubt she would readily accept baby rice. I would hold off until close to the 6month mark as per current advice.

they go through a really fussy phase at this age, usually coinciding with a growth spurt and it should pass in a few days, or if it's teething and her ears are sore you could try feeding her in a more upright position which will take the pressure off her ears. Nelson's teetha granules are very good at calming a teething baby

I had thought of teething but she's fine at all other times of the day and between feeds. it jsut seems to be the bottle that bothers her. But maybe the bottle is rubbing on her gums, she seems to have built up this negative association with the bottle??!! can they do this at this age??!

Ive got some bonjela so will try that. its so fristrating, she was fine until a couple of days ago but i see youve mentioned a fussy stage lackaDAISYcal, could be that?

the bottle can definitely feel bad on teething gums. ds1 used to go off his when he was teething. and ds2 got fussy on breast when teething as well. I guess the pressure hurts or something?

see if bonjela/calpol helps, then you;'ll know

have you tried changing her teats? maybe she's having ti suck too hard to get the milk out.
I def agree with everyone saying to try bonjela, or Calgel - I've used it and it's brilliant. Worked for my wisdom teeth coming through too!
As for giving rice - my son had it at 12 weeks nad he's fine, but he was draining his bottles and stil appearing to be hungry.
Good luck with it all!
