my dd is one year old next week and i still haven't had a period! and no, i'm definately not pregnant!

while this is great news for me, i am curious about others experience. with my first 2 kids, it was 10 months, and i kinda thought they'd have turned up by now!

anybody had a similar situation?

I had my first period when DD was 8 months even though I'm still feeding her at 13 months. Everyone's different I suppose. I wouldnt worry about it sometimes you dont get a period until you stop nursing.

Can I hijack and ask how long / if your periods settled back into a reliable pattern?

9 months with dd, when she started sometimes sleeping through the night.

LackaDAISYcal · 16/03/2009 16:47

DD 9 weeks (she started sleeping for an eight hour stretch at 6 weeks)

DS2 2 weeks ago at 17 weeks and he is still feeding three times a night . It was pretty light though.

HolidaysQueen · 16/03/2009 16:50

About 7.5mo when he was sleeping about 8 hours at night and dropped the lunchtime feed so was on 4 feeds a day in total.

ShowOfHands · 16/03/2009 16:50

4 months and dd was still feeding every 2hrs day and night.

Heavier than before.

Wasn't actually fertile though. Took about 7 months for my luteal phase to lengthen to anything near fertile. I am still breastfeeding her at 22 months.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 16/03/2009 18:39

sorry to Hijack - ShowofHands - how did you work out how long your luteal phase was?

Grendle · 16/03/2009 19:03

1 year 9 days

and

17 months

peppapighastakenovermylife · 16/03/2009 19:04

6 weeks with DS...still waiting with DD (6.5 months). Strange as they both fed to a similar frequency (very frequently!)

HolidaysQueen · 16/03/2009 19:14

noolia - in answer to your hijack, my periods settled down almost straight away to being regular. they are heavier and longer than before though, and i have worse PMT (but then i was one of those people who got away with a 2 day, no fuss period for the best part of 20 years!)

JackBauer · 16/03/2009 19:20

BF both DD's, got pregnant when DD1 was 11 months old with no period in between, then DD2 was 10 months when they started again so I went over 3 years with no period, was bliss!

Chalkpink · 16/03/2009 19:33

Always about a month after I completely stopped feeding them (3 DCs). They have got progressively heavier each time though (periods not dcs!).

ShowOfHands · 16/03/2009 20:08

ByThePower, sorry, dinner, bath, bed, 300 bedtime stories later...

I know when I ovulate, always have very clear signs, can even tell you which side. I charted for a while when ttc dd and this confirmed what I already knew about my cycle. When my periods returned I was ovulating and then period was 4/5 days later. So a pretty short lp! I ovulated earlier and earlier as the months went on and now have a consistent 13 days lp.

MamaHobgoblin · 16/03/2009 21:25

9 months - was not happy to see it back! I've had three now and they are at pretty much 28 day intervals, and I seem to be ovulating (eggwhite mucus at about the right time) although I think my luteal phase is a bit shorter than it was, but I'm still bf and it'll probably settle down when we stop. Whenever that will be!

Periods are light and painfree, a welcome change if I had to have them back at all!

nigglewiggle · 16/03/2009 21:31

9 months with DD2 and seem to be regular 28 day cycle, but only 2 so far.

Can't remember with DD1 but seem to think it was a lot sooner.

This would support the night-feed theory as DD1 slept through very early . DD2, totally different and only occasionally sleeping through at 10 months!

sweetkitty · 16/03/2009 21:32

DD1 - 4 weeks after post birth bleeding stopped so when she was 8 weeks

DD2 - 11 months

DD3 - 8 months and still no sign

This is due to DD1 being the only one who has slept through the night from 6 weeks and is not up feeding all night.

JulesJules · 16/03/2009 21:35

8 months after DD1 who was bf until she was 2yo by which time I was just over 5m pg with dd2. Then 13m after dd2 who was bf until she was 3y6m. Took quite a while to settle down into regular cycle, but then again, I'd been on pill previously, so had had a regulated (rather than regular) cycle, iyswim.

MillBill · 16/03/2009 22:43

13 months for both children, so you're not alone!

psychomum5 · 16/03/2009 22:45

my period returned exactly 4wks (to the day) after my last breast feed, with each of them (5 DC's).

and I fed each of them for differing times

littleducks · 16/03/2009 22:56

with dd it was about 12months in but with ds 6 weeks after he was born ven though he was exclusively breastfed at at nearly one still doesnt sleep through

luvaduck · 16/03/2009 23:38
