Giving an expressed feed - bottle or 'doidy' cup?

My 5 week old is doing well on the breast but we really want to give her an expressed feed maybe once a day - any views on whether we use a bottle or one of the slanty cups? Also which feed is it a good idea to get dh to give - the 10pm ish one makes sense as I could sleep....my other worry is how much to defrost to give her as I don't really know how much she takes at each feed. HV has suggested 4 - 5 oz - is this other people's experience?

My DD is still extremely slurpy/spilly with her doidy cup at 7 months and I would have wept if it were EBM she was spilling.

We never had any problems switching between bottle and breast, even from very early on (in terms of breast being rejected I mean, it never happened).

Meant to say, I'm not nec recommending you do give her a bottle as I think there are associated risks, but you really need to decide what you want to do.

I think anything other than a bottle is going to be very painstaking though.

Yes me too - I have heard different advice from different hv's - I wish they would get their stories straight!! Cup makes sense for weaning rather than a wee five week old....I hate the idea of 'wasting'/losing EBM too so I am inclined towards bottle really. But interested in the mighty mumsnet views..!

I also found the doidy cups very messy, most ended up around dd's top! I often express and find dd has no problem switching between breast and bottle, but my dd was used to bottles from the first few days, dunno if that made things easier and avoided any nipple confusion.

Thanks all - we are going with the bottle and after a disastrous first attempt where dh poured it all over her and him, we had a better go last night. Makes me feel there is light at the end of the tunnel as I can potentially have a break!!!
