How long till food 'shows up' in your breastmilk?

I've gone out on a limb and had my first curry tonight since giving birth. How quickly will this affect the taste of my breastmilk? My DS is asleep and likely to stay asleep for a few hours. If I pump soon, will that milk be unaffected? I know it may not matter anyway but just in case... I do have expressed milk frozen if the worst comes to the worst.

Let him taste the curry. He'll probably like it.

If you had curries when you were pregnant then he's probably used to the taste.

You're not seriously going to throw away breastmilk because you've had a curry? Seriously?

One of the many nice things about breastfeeding is that it gives your child a taste for the kinds of foods you eat, so when you wean them they will probably like family foods. Of course afaik that works for FF babies too due to tasting their mother's waters and also just eating what they are given when they are first introduced to solids.

Tbh, I've never heard of a baby being put off by the taste of the milk (allergies aside). I think this is a wee bit of a myth.

Although I've also heard that bf babies are easier to wean as they're already used to lots of flavours through bm.

Sorry, this doesn't answer your question.

For some reason I thought it was 4 hours but I may have just made that up

Just feed him anyway.

Yep - you have made it up, SoupDragon!!

There is no single time for milk to be affected by diet - some things (eg alcohol) enter straight away, others never do, the vast majority of babies are unaffected either way by anything in what you eat or drink.

Please dont bother pumping!!!

thai green curry used to make dd1 hideous. she drank it fine, but was crabby for hours. it happened three times in a row so coincidence or not, i gave up eating tgc whilst i was bf.

would agree that alcohol gets through fairly rapido.

This is another element of my current 'I hate breastfeeding' phase. Ds has colic, oh joy, and I think wheat exacerbates it, so I've stopped eating it. Things have eased, but whenever he has a bad day, like today, I immediately examine what I've been eating and getting myself quite paranoid about every morsel that passes my lips. And I want a glass of red wine, but the piglet feeds so bloody constantly (the cause of this current phase of hating BF I think) that I daren't.
