How can I get my 18mth old twins to sleep without feeding?

My twins are 18mths old now, and need to breastfeed to get to sleep. We co-sleep in a bed, and they still wake during the night. One will be cuddled back to sleep in the night when she wakes, but the other gets very upset as soon as she stirs, so I have to feed her immediately. Cuddling doesn't work to get her back to sleep, she just gets very cross and then they are both awake

I am looking for other ways to get them to sleep at night, and to comfort them back to sleep, mainly so I can go out for a late evening out and someone can put them to bed for me!

Any ideas please?!

No ideas, but can I just say how utterly fab that you breastfed/breastfeed twins for so long.

Am in awe!!!!

Put them to bed a bit earlier, feed them and then scarper? I think that's what I did when bfding and going out. They usually didn't wake till after midnight if they did wake for night feed.
I also found it suited me to put them to bed in cots, and have them co-sleeping once they woke in night, rather than start them off in bed with me.
You could bfd the baby sitting in a chair, and then when on edge of sleep put them down rather than when completely asleep. Sleep threads probably better on this discussion.
Also possibility of introducing cup of warm milk (of whatever type) into daytime routine so can understand if given by someone else if you are out?
I think they do associate bfdng with a person, so if you are not there, they might not mind being given milk in a cup by someone else...Anyway that was my experience of bfdng twins...

Thanks for the advice, swanriver, I will give it a go! Thanks too, moondog!
