hi there,
i was on a couple of days ago asking about how to get my milk in quicker as LO v. hungry.

its arrived now so that's good, he's feeding but getting tired quite quickly. he's jaudiced so sleepy so i'm doing the usual stripping down to the nappy and toe tickling.

he was struggling to get a latch adn looking at his tongue it is heart shaped at the front. latch is really painful adn killing my nipples, not like with DS1.

MW came on thurs before i realised how bad it was and i'm waiting for one to come now.

fri i resorted to getting some nipple shields (i had been topping up with formula but ditched this as advised by you guys, which is good cos i have more milk) i know the shields can affect supply but he is actually able to feed with them on, he's doing nice long sucks adn lots of swallowing but still quite sleepy.

lst night fed him at 11 then went to bed whilst he slept on Dh's chest, all of us slept thru til 6 (!) which is not good surely?!
i'm so worried, i've been waking him up every 2 hrs today to try adn get some liquid in him and get over the jaundice. passed lots of mec, last nappy had yellow seeds in it but nothing for 3 days now.

any advice/reasurrance would be appreciated re the tongue tie/ lack of poo/ feeding issues?

thanks alot!

Lack of poo is worth raising with the midwife, socks....would be good to weigh your baby if she has decent scales with her. Ask her to check tongue.

As a one off a long sleep is not a problem.

Maybe you can report back after m/w visit?

Hope things get better today. To get a full picture, though, your baby needs to be weighed.

mw just been.
no tongue tie & the reason for poor latch is my breasts were too big & full for him to latch on so he was just chomping on the nipple.
she showed me how to hand exprss a bit and he's just had a huge feed. looking around now quite alert but full.

jaundice is serious, shes going to give it 24hrs ,then see how hes doing. if he gets too sleepy then i'm to take him into the pn ward for blood test & lights if ness.

his weight has gone from 4.060 to 3.660. so 10%.
not sure if they will weigh him again tomorrow, i suppose even 24hrs will make a difference.

do you think i should set an alarm tonight to dream feed him after 4 hours?

All that sounds helpful, socks - good that she observed a feed and helped you feed him effectively. Also good she is returning tomorrow. Weightloss is within what's considered normal limits - he should start gaining from that level now.

My feeling is he should have as many opportunities to feed as poss, and yes, that would include waking him through the night.
