milk has sugar in too (lactose) and it stays behind teeth longer when they drink out of a bottle than a cup. That said, ds1 drank his evening milk out of a bottle for erm, far too long and his teeth are fine (always brushed after milk but before bed though).

In addition to tooth decay, using bottles affects the shape of a child's palatte and development of their tongue. The importance of breastfeeding for proper oral development is something not often talked about. More info here.

Bumbly, what is a 'bottle with teeth'? Is there a better shape of bottle teat than the nipple shape? I've looked on tommee tippee website and no advice there. I'm aware that I need to get 10mo off the nipple shape bottle. (Cup for juice & water, but he refuses cup for milk.)ta!

sorry meant teat

by the way what about kids with dummies who use them well into toddlerhood

do they have badly developed palats!?

That's hilarious - great typo!
I thought you really meant a bottle that's good for babies' teeth. (is there one??)
