Jusr starting to introduce cows milk but have read somewhere that 'growing up milk'has much more iron and nutrients than cows milk. Or is this a ply from companies so that we buy this formula

It's a marketing con. Save yer cash!

Not sure, but suspect that is the case!

My HV suggested putting DS who is 3 back on formula for his bedtime milk, as he has a poor diet (his choice not mine, as he is a fussy eater!!). I need to do more research into iron rich foods for toddlers, as I would prefer him to get the goodness from food, and formula is expensive.

Would be interested in others views!!

I have just introduced cows' milk (two weeks shy of first birthday). DD2 has a very enthusiastic and large appetite and has a big range of healthy food - scoffs all veg, fish, berries - not to mention lego and carpet fluff. I guess if she were more picky I'd go for the growing up milk but think it's a ploy myself. I'd use the normal milk and if DC doesn't eat much varied stuff maybe vitamins but I think a good diet provides all that they need. If DC is healthy and energetic and doesn't get ill much - you're fine.

As tots can be fussy I actually do an occasional drink with formula before bed if my tot hasn't eaten too well that day.

Cows milk is fine as loong as you DC has a varied diet.

The only good thing about teh growing up milk is that teh formula companies are allowed to advertise it. They are banned from advertising newborn formula so have created a product which is not aimed at newborns; which they can advertise and therefore promote their brand.

The only people that gain from it are the formula companies.

All of my DDs were on BM or newborn forumla until they were 1; when they had cows milk.

The 'growing up milk' thing does annoy me by the way since I do think it's a con aimed at making parents feel they are not doing the right thing. The human race has done pretty well without it (I used formula too instead of breastfeeding from 2 months-ish too not anti that - just think after one it's not necessary if diet is good).
