Are you guilty of favouring your mega-boob? Does anyone know if this is a problem?

Like many people (I believe), bf-ing can make me slightly, shall we say, lop-sided! My right boob, when full of milk, is noticeably (to me at least) bigger than my left. It's also been the more "spurty" of the two as well : it has been known - when DD pops off mid-feed to gawp about - to spurt from 5 points! (Does everyone else have that too?).

Anyway, although I do try to swap at each feed, I know that I favour mega-boob, in some vain (both senses!), vicious circle attempt to get it the same size as normal boob (temporary success only).

My DD is nearly 9mo, and we've had a lovely, smooth time of bf-ing, pretty much, so bf-ing is well established now, I think. And she certainly doesn't seem to find normal boob less satisfying than mega-boob. But is my blatant favouritism of mega-boob going to cause me problems? I intend to bf until DD self-weans.

TIA!

lol

My super boob was my left one, as was so much bigger - dd stopped feeding over a week ago and i fear i may be forever lopsided, lol. Try to remember to start with other boob sometimes, thats the best i could remember. i found it easier to feed from my left boob as my fave sofa side was the left too

Penthesileia · 22/02/2009 10:47

No! Don't even say it! I cannot accept the thought that I may be left lopsided!

What age is your DD? Obviously your supply wasn't affected at all.

Good tip, thanks: will try to begin on the left...

Nope, I favour Droopy Boob and even them out. It has worked so well I sometimes have to stop and remember which one is UberBoob.

My rule was that if I couldn't remember which side I was on, I had to choose Droopy Boob.

ScorpiowithabigS · 22/02/2009 10:49

dd is only 10 months, my milk went on its own because i had a mc, i didnt want to stop! I did have more milk i think in my left, but i had to try hard to remember my right.

I am small of nork so the size difference is v obvious - we have a very funny photo of me braless but with a tshirt on with one big boob and one flat one, LOL. DH thinks its hilarious! [git]

Penthesileia · 22/02/2009 10:52

Oh, Scorpio - I'm sorry about your mc. I didn't mean to be insensitive.

LOL @ DH's photo!

Alice - Droopy Boob!! Good to hear of your success at getting them the same size. Hooray!

Well I forget which side I'm on all the time. It would probably be a less successful method if you were even slightly organised about your feeding.

arthymum · 22/02/2009 11:58

I have a mega-boob even when not BF - it is definitely fuller and leakier and when I express I get loads more out of it. DS prefers it to - but I worry that if he uses it more the increased production will turn it into an uber-mega boob.

spiderlight · 22/02/2009 17:32

I drifted into favouring Lefty because my little lad was never keen on Righty - it produced less milk and had a slower let-down from the start, despite all attempts to put him on it first to try and encourage it. The older he gets, the more he loves Lefty and hates Righty, and now at 23 months he will at best have a little token suck at Righty before pushing it away and asking for 'different one' or 'Big Mambo' ('mambo' being his word for breastfeeding - no idea why!!). Righty has responded by getting smaller and smaller and only letting down a pathetic little feed about once a week. I keep setting out to try and pump it back into action, but it's having none of it.

The upshot of it is that my boobs now look like Laurel and Hardy. I'm pretty much resigned to it and have been assured that they will even out eventually when we stop bf....which might not be for yonks yet because he's still so hugely into it. It doesn't really bothe me, except that I have to try and find something to wear to a wedding next month and 'posh' clothes are a lot less forgiving than my usual baggy hoodies!

blueshoes · 22/02/2009 17:37

Long term, it will also give you nipples of different length!

arthymum: that's the vicious circle - I too fear super-mega-boob!

Sorry, spiderlight - but PMSL at 'Big Mambo'! That's fabulous! "Baby loves Mambo" Hmmm, DD isn't particularly biased herself: it's me that puts her to mega-boob more often...

blueshoes! Is that true???

DS2 had a favourite boob - like you say a mega boob - good and squirty too. By about 12 months he would only feed from that side. I BF him till he self weaned at almost 2. It took a while, but they did go back to being the same size as each other.
I did hear that you can get an NHS boob job if there are more than 2 cup size difference between 'em and I was kinda hoping for some nice new boobs

blueshoes · 22/02/2009 18:13

Yes. I have abandoned righty in favour of lefty for the last year or more - ds is now 2.5 and feeds quickly maybe 2-3x a day. I suspect once he is weaned, it might go back a little .
