he's prescribed augmentin (anti-b) and said I should take paracetamol for the pain & fever. I had been taking ibuprofen & he told me to stop. Is he talking out of his bum??

yes.

unless there is some other reason that you shouldn't - BF not a reason.

Strange advice - ring him up and ask him why. There may be a reason, but as wuglet says, bf is almost certainly not it!

I thought so - my hv said it would be fine, and I am 'normal' otherwise medically so no reason to avoid it...
due to see him for the 6 wk check in a few days so will ask then what his reasoning is.

Annoying as I'd preferred him to the other GP in the practice, and now don't feel all that confident about him either! He and the other GP also have totally different approaches to treating ear infections in toddlers (and so, ds) which is really unhelpful. Ah well.

I've taken ibruprofen when I had mastitis - you need it for the fever- paracetamol just doesn't touch it. I've had a GP tell me I shouldn't take it. But he also told me you 'never' need antibiotics for mastitis
