Need extra milk for sick 8month old - will my boobs cope???

DD2 is nearly 8 months and has pretty much weaned herself off the breast apart from early morning and bedtime. She has been off her food for 24hours and started being sick this morning. I have been offering her BF regularly but not sure there is anything there and also worried I will have nothing left at bedtime when she normally has a good long feed.

Breasts never empty. If you imagine you are drinking water from a cup and as you are drinking a friend is por=uring more water into the cup. The faster you drink, the quicker she pours. That's how your breasts work

that's good to know. So even though she's refused all daytime feeds for a couple of weeks, I should be able to keep her going while she is ill? HV said that once a "feed" has been dropped you can never get it back.

it will be fine, your body adjusts to demand very quickly. hope your lo feels better soon.

Yes. As long as she keeps sucking, your breasts will keep producing. Maybe the hv meant that once she has dropped a feed it means she no longer needs it therfore you won't be able to make her take it rather then losing that ability from your breast IYSWIM. Hope your LO is feeling better soon, Can't beat mums milk when they are sick!

i dropped the days feeds once my toddler got to one and then when i got mastitus a few mths ago i started feeding of the other boob as well when my toddler usually only had side for his waking and bed feed and iwthin a day or two my boobs had caught up
