hi guys

have stopped breastfeeding dd1 a week ago.
She's 10 months old and big baby and was grazing all evening and mornings on my breast.

I am back at work and not have so much time anymore so I bit the bullet and went cold turkey, she was already getting the odd bottle of formula before so bottle feeding is not a problem.

Since I have stopped the breastfeeding she is sleeping a lot more!

Before she used to fall asleep at around 11:00PM after having spent the evening on my breast and would wake up costantly during the night. She hardly napped during the day (10-15 mins max)

Now she naps twice during the day (morning and afternoon 1 hour) and sleeps through 8pm to 8am!

I am NOT complaining!!!!!

However it seems to me like she is drinking too much formula. Example of a typical day is now:

8:15 breakfast - 1 weetabix

10:00 formula milk 250ml bottle

Nap

12:00 lunch (vegetables with pasta and cheese or meat- fruit)

13:00 formula milk 250ml bottle
naps at around 2:30

4:30 snack of yogourt or cheese and biscuits

6:00 dinner (ditto for lunch)

7:00 formula milk 250ml bottle

8:00 formula milk 250ml bottle

bed

she drains the bottle so she is effectively drinking 1 litre of milk a day. Is this too much?

Also, I have noticed that since stopping breastfeeding she has lost some weight- but this is might be due to the fact that she is very active and nearly walking.

I am not worried about the weight loss as she was very big before and now she looks better (more like a toddler than a baby) but I think that I am giving her too much milk and not enough food. She never finishes the food I give her, but she really goes for the milk.

Is this quantity to much?
Is the sleep pattern OK - It's bliss for me as I finally have some rest, but do you think she's sleeping too much?

thanks for your advice

tbh, 4 bottles a day sounds fine to me, DS is 14mnths and has only just cut down to 2 on a good day, 3 on a normal day.

I prefer my kids to drink the milk to be honest..... solid food is fun til 1yr old!

thanks!
hv said a couple of months ago that she was too fat because of too much milk... and that I should try to give her more food.
She even advised to stop breastfeeding
I have only stopped breastfeeding when I felt ready - but I cant say her words were playing at the back of my mind....
That's why I am a bit paranoid she's drinking too much milk...

i dont know what it is with HV's... you are either starving them or over feeding them.... if they want the milk, give the milk!

We offer DS all 3 meals, and a snack mid morning and mid afternoon, but he has 8oz when he wakes in the morning, 8oz for a nap during the day (unless he sleeps in the car) and 8oz before bed.

He's a big lad - in 18-24mnth clothes, but is by no means fat.

Sleep wise - sounds ideal. DS sleeps for 2hrs in his cot during the day and 6pm-6am

guess I was used to worst case scenario sleepwise -it's great now!

I do miss breastfeeding now though and dd does too
