I am bfing my 10 week old baby. About 6 weeks ago I developed thrush, after a bit of a struggle (several different prescriptions) it seemed to clear. However now have been told I have a bacterial infection of the skin on the nipples and areola.(another prescription for a different cream). It just feels as if things have been sore forever. (a few respites but then sore again).Have had the latch and positioning checked by several people (midwife, health visitors, bf counsellors) and been told it is fine.

Am starting to feel a bit down about it all, although I know it is not the worst problem in the world. It would be great to hear from anyone who had similar problems and got through it. Any practical advice would be great too.

Helms, no advice, just sympathy as I feel much the same. Have been battling thrush myself (my baby is just over 6 weeks now) and thought i was beating it but in more pain again today. Oh for a pain free feed..

I've also had latch looked at and told it's fine but today I noticed the nipple was white when it came out which I think might be a sign that it's not... so maybe things that look fine aren't, if that makes sense.

Anyway just to say I know exactly how you feel and am feeling pretty down about it myself, so lots of support to you.

Thank you, KiwiPanda, sorry to hear that things are still difficult for you. I have noticed some blanching just after I have fed the baby. Kellymom seems to say this can be a secondary response to nipple trauma (thrush etc). If this is the case it gets better as the original problem clears. Let's hope so...

I am sure we will get through this but it's not easy at times, is it?
