Blood in breast milk and pain in breast

Hi - I've seen blood in my breast milk this afternoon whilst expressing, and my breast is very sore and painful. There is no obvious cut or sore on my breast or nipple, do you think I had an infected breast and need to see a Doctor, or should I just see what happens over the weekend? Thanks

you need to see a doctor - it's maybe an abscess which will need to be treated with antibiotics. Is your breast engorged?

No not engorged at all. If I had an abscess would my breast be engorged? Thanks

i don't know, tbh.

but blood is obv a sign that something's not right, along with the pain.

go to the doctor!

I had this once while bf'ing - first I knew of it was when DS threw up some blood on his vest - went to the GP to see if it was him or me, it was me (the scab had appeared by then) and she said it was nothing to worry about as such, no infection in my case, but to not feed DS off that breast for 3 days to allow it to heal.

Are you finding expressing difficult? In my case DS caused it by sucking too hard. To be safe, go to your GP but don't worry about it because it may be nothing serious.
