I only asky because my LO is FF and nearly 1yr. If I switch him to cow's milk too early, will it have any detrimental affects?

If he's 11 months or more, I don't think it would do much - I think there are some issues with iron and cow's milk, but assuming he eats well, you should be fine.

The advice to switch to cows' milk at 12 months is fairly recent - DS1 is nearly 17 and he was switched to cows' milk at 6 months because that was the advice at the time. 3 years later, when DS2 came along, it had changed to 12 months. As things had been fine with DS1 I ignored this new advice and moved him on to cows' milk at 6 months too. No problems.

Having said this - by way of a caveat - we don't have any dairy issues in the family. I suspect that if you have such problems then the advice to leave it till 12 months is probably wise.

Thanks guys. I have already been introducing it in cooking and bits and pieces so I suppose it will make no difference to give up the follow-on milk a few weeks before his birthday.

Yipee - no more nasty formula for us!!!!

I weaned ds onto cowsmilk from bm at 11months

11 or 12months what is the difference

I understand that there is not enough iron in cowsmilk for the early months.
