she is 18mnths and she stopped feeding about 10 weeks ago...no prob more than that.

anyway, she still loves to put her hand down my top to handle one(fiddle about with the nipple..i can hardly feel it weirdly)...or if i have my dressing gown on then she wants them both

i suppose i want to know how common this is? do you suppose it means i weaned her before she was ready (it was def my idea)..and basically im just after your experiences.

im so used to it i barely notice that she is doing it...but i do get funny looks from time to time.

(footnote...i am off to bed as promised myself i would be in bed by nine!...but i will be on to check tomorrow...ta)

I've not got to weaning yet with my 2, but from what I hear from other mums this is perfectly common and normal.

yeah i thought it might be pretty common too..but wasnt sure..thanks.

do they just grow out of it? ...how long does that take? I would prob rather be feeding her than have her 'attached'to me in this way.

it is hilarious at the same time though...this morning in bed for example she was sitting astride my lap then put her bare feet up my top and latched on with her toes...laughing.

I'm not so sure it is related to weaning, my DS still does this even after he self-weaned over a year ago when he couldn't be bothered to breastfeed any more at about 11 months.

He also messes with elbows and earlobes, so I think he's just a tactile little fellow who likes bumpy bits.

My DD is 18mo and was weaned at 14mo - I'm pretty sure she was ready, she only wanted a feed in the morning and when I went back to work didn't seem to mind losing that.

In the evening she sometimes points at my boobs and so i get one out for her and she sort of puts her mouth on it - but can't actually remember how to feed. Then she prods it and laughs! She also stares whenever i don't have a top on (nearly as bad as her daddy!!)

I think it's probably just a normal fascination with the bit of the body they used to get milk from, so is a bit special. Also they don't have breasts so they're just interested.

That's my theory anyway!

thanks for posting...im a teeny bit fed up with it at the mo i think, just hearing about others going through the same thing (not that it is that bad) has helped a bit

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but my DD is aged nearly 8 (years - not months) and is still obsessed with my breasts . I stopped breastfeeding her when she was 2.5 years and she's essentially twiddled my nipples whenever we've co-slept (drives me up the wall). Thankfully she sleeps in her own bed most of the time, so my breasts have some peace and quiet, but I still have to remove her hand from underneath my top from time to time.

So, word of advice, nip the twiddling in the bud as soon as you can because it appears to take a long time for them to grow out of it!

beansontoast · 18/01/2009 20:10

well (melodramatic) and thanks for letting me know!

i feel certain that dd is just as obsessed (lol)..it's like a little nagging gut feeling that this this is 'off the scale' whilst appearing harmless!

she cannot be with me and not have one hand grappling.

might start another thread for 'ideas' or 'strategies' to get her orf the nubble once and for all!
