Baby unsettled, follow on formula to blame?

OK, dd2 6 months. Dd2 was (almost) EBF until 5 months. She used to have a formula top up around 3/4 times a week as I just didn't seem to have enough for her. At 5 months, when she seemed to self wean, continued with same (from birth) formula.

Friday late pm I had to have a GA. Not allowed to drive. On Saturday we needed formula & I sent dh to get it (as not allowed to drive til today) I wrote down EXACTLY what to get. He got the 6months + version.

Had no choice but to give to dd. Starting early this am. She has been very unsettled ALL day. Unless held, which just isn't like her. She has 2 naps a day & while it can take a little coaxing to get her to sleep, normally just a few minutes, today I gave up after 90 minutes & got her up. She just did not want to be on her back at all! Lots of back arching & throwing feet & arms. Full on screaming, scratching at her face. Both naps. She is finally alseep for bedtime (with same drama as naps) but v restless. Woken once (finally fell asleep on side, and rolled onto back - which woke her), same drama but less time to settle.

I have just remembered that I was supposed to slowly introduce it, not go full on foe every feed...after Friday I just cannot think straight, wouldn't have helped anyway, as we have nothing else to give her.

The good news is that she will sleep until 6ish, so no further feeds needed & I will go & get some normal stuff tomorrow.

Am v at dh because he said he couldn't be bothered to try another shop for her normal stuff, but also at me for not thinking!

I am pretty sure it is the change in formula, but feel so for my baby!

Follow-on formula can cause really bad constipation. If you put her back on the normal stuff, she should be fine. (She's exclusively formula fed now?)

She could be a bit unsettled from you being away and poorly and so on with the GA, but yes, please move her back to the normal formula.

(Follow-on formula is a bit of a scam anyway, it's to do with the formula advertising laws in the UK. Nothing to do with babies' needs.)

It could be the formula and I would swap back as you know she was fine with the from birth stuff. But just wanted to say she sounds like she is behaving a lot like my DD when she was ill over Xmas.

Very restless, only fell asleep (except for bedtime) when we were holding her, very wakeful in the night, back arching etc - seemed like she was very windy.

She was snotty too though which was causing her to wake up and giving her wind when she tried to feed but it is worth considering.

NQC, thank you, yes she is exclusively on formula...am going out to get her normal stuff now. I don't believe in follow on, never gave it to dd1 at all. Didn't think about her reacting to me being away.

Fizzpops, she isn't snotty & doesn't look ill. I did give her some panadol as I know she is teething too, but she never reacted like this to teething.

Not letting dh buy her food again!
