When did any other breastfeeders periods return???

Im currently breastfeeding our almost 7m old ds2, no sign of AF yet and slightly paranoid of being/getting pregnant! AF returned at 7m with ds1 and about 6m with dd (cant really remember!) He is on solids now and has 1 bottle of formula before bed. Feeling slightly crampy in lower belly on and off, maybe ovulation or pre AF??? Anyone else felt like this or got preg when breastfeedin?

Mine came back when dd was 9 months.

You can absolustley can get pg while bf, so if you don't want to, take precautions

katiepotatie · 10/01/2009 08:54

mine came back after 10 weeks! breastfed for 14 months!
Didn't get pregnant though till dd was 15 months, although we weren't trying to get pregnant. Due in April again

madmouse · 10/01/2009 08:55

9 months with me

DontlookatmeImshy · 10/01/2009 08:58

With ds1 they came back at 9/10 months
Ds2 back at 4 months (was gutted!)

I know a few people who got pg while bf'ing so if you don't want to get pg, use protection, same as you would any other time.

AnarchyAunt · 10/01/2009 08:59

2 weeks to the day after we introduced solids! So just over 6 months.

shoneshine · 10/01/2009 08:59

I dont need to worry yet then! Had been using the 'withdrawal method' of contraception but have been told by several sources it is unreliable so I`ll have to get someting else!

With dd they came back at 6 weeks- I bf her for 10 months but was expressing a lot as she was at nursey from 10 weeks, and I think this is why. My ds is now 7 months like yours and still no sign, but he will not take a bottle, isn't at nursery and still feeds constantly so that's probably why I think? But afaik, there's no real consensus as to when/why they generally do return. I know my friend cut back bf at about 6 months when she was desperate to ttc again as she was very worried she wouldn't be able to concieve, within 2 months she was pregnant with no period inbetween

Came back at 9 months.
Got pg (intentionally) whilst still feeding at 23 months.

tittybangbang · 10/01/2009 09:35

With all three babies my periods came back at around 8 - 9 months.

Got pregnant with my third while still feeding at 13 months.

jafina · 10/01/2009 10:19

When dd was 10 months, I was gutted!!!

chloejessmeg · 10/01/2009 10:36

I got pregnant when DD was 6 months, just starting solids but still constant BF, still feeding in the night etc AND I was on the mini pill! SO DD is now 12 months and I am due in april.

BouncingTurtle · 10/01/2009 12:08

9 weeks

You need to use protection if you are planning to conceive - remember ovulation occurs before your period!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 10/01/2009 12:10

About 9 months with ds1 (we finished bf at 7 months). DS2 is 7 1/2 months and down to 3 feeds a day and still no sign of a period

cazzybabs · 10/01/2009 12:20

I have had one and dd is now just a year..that was 6 weeks ago...am hoping it is has just gone all over the shop rathre than I am late for any other reason...dd3 took so long to concieve I have taken a rather poor approach to contrception

CorrieDale · 10/01/2009 12:25

6 weeks with DS. 3 months with DD. This despite breastfeeding lots!!!! I got pregnant when preastfeeding, but if we hadn't wanted a baby I would definitely have used protection.

idobelieveinfairies · 10/01/2009 12:26

Mine didn't return until i finished breast feeding at just over a year.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 10/01/2009 12:27

9 months here as well.

HolidaysQueen · 10/01/2009 12:27

Came back when DS was 7.5 months - when he had almost dropped the lunchtime feed and was down to 3 full bfs per day.

cyteen · 10/01/2009 12:28

DS is 4 months and still no sign here. Weirdly though I do seem to experience the PMS and some cramping, just no blood I wonder where it goes?

13 months here

Grendle · 11/01/2009 00:43

1 year 9 days first time
1 year 4 months 3 weeks and 2 days second time

Both times I had cramping at various points on and off in the months leading up to full return of fertility. Both times I also correctly identified ovulation 2 weeks before first AF arrived through monitoring fertility signs, so knew what was coming .

vlc · 11/01/2009 01:49

Last week!

17.5 months, that would be. Still bf dd.
