OMG my 4mo just downed 9oz for the dreamfeed...

DS (DC2 after DD) just downed 9oz and was hunting for more for his dreamfeed. He's breastfed but have done formula for the 10.30ish feed since he was 12 weeks. He's now 4.5mo and has been a wakeful, noisy, hungry baby since day one. Actually, minute one, the little Zagazoo... Took him to cranio-sacral woman today and she said his rapid birth combined with colic and consistently bad digestion and being very wakeful/alert/chatty/wired are very common. Am just wondering whether whatever probs he had before are morphing into sheer hunger and he's just ready for weaning... What would you do now?

Well 4 months is the typical age for a growth spurt so feeding more is pretty usual! Try bf him more during the day so that your supply adjusts - you may find he's more distracted from his day feeds because he's at the age where everything is REALLY interesting so you may have to take him somewhere quiet to make sure he concentrates. If he's not feeding enough during the day he'll take more at night. Definitely wouldn't wean at this age - he'll get more calories and fat from your milk than he will from any early foods.

Erm...weaning..not a good idea, I think....milk (Breast and Formula) has far more calories and is really what a Baby should be having in the first 6ish month of life....solids are less calory dense, but possibly fill more without the added bonus of calories....really solids are just tasters in the first year!

Well I weaned DD at 5.5mo cos she was clearly hungry and previously great routine/naps/sleep wemt out the window, and DS is a lot bigger and hungrier than her. I really don't believe that solids are just tasters in the first year, actually, from my experience.

it is completely normal behaviour though, they all go through this, no matter what you feed them...really...
I weaned es, as it was fashion at the time at 4 month, he still went thorugh this.
Ms and ys were both exclusively demand breastfed until 6month and even after that was their main food...growthspurts, times of waking etc...are all part of it....
and ys was a little heffer....he was born at 8Ibs 7 1.2oz and well, he put weight on like a little trooper and was very chubby, but breastmilk did that...he just had more of that...

If he has bad digestion it seems like an extra reason not to wean early IMO. Milk is much gentler and easy to digest. If I were you I would just keep on with what you are doing.
