but I really really want to stop now

I hoped once she was weaned she would cut back on the night feeds, but they seem to have settled into a regular 2hrly slot.

During the day she is bf at about 6/7am, 2pm, 6pm and 11pm. She's also eats solids well at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

She shouldn't need to feed during the night now too surely?? She only feeds for 5 mins before falling back to sleep.

She flatly refuses a bottle btw, but accepts a tippee cup with water during the day.

If you want to stop, then you can stop. It's your body and your decision.

This as info on night weaning techniques.

The evidence on when babies sleep through the night and stop needing to feed at night is that it varies quite a lot. See here andhere. Many babies go on waking for feeds at night longer than 6 months -it's not abnormal.

I am no expert, but will bump for you maybe if you could get the night-time waking sorted out you could continue to bf during the day (if that's what you want to do) It does sound like she is waking up from habit, and is maybe used to using your boob as a prop to get back to sleep. I know I may well get shot down in flames for this, but have you tried a dummy? I was adamant mine wouldn't have them, but when I was facing absolute exhaustion from a baby that would only go to sleep on my boob, I caved, and, after trying many different types and persevering, it worked. If you hate the idea of dummies I know people told me to give water- but that just enraged dd further! Could work for you though! Hope you find a way through!

thanks for your replies.

Last night was stressful. She woke at 2:30am and I finally got her to sleep an hour later. I spent the night on the sofa with her in my arms.

Anyway I suppose I did achieve my aim as she didn't feed until 6am (last feed 11pm) but I feel drained and crap for it!

Am also cutting out the afternoon bf as that's the one most problematic for me. So I guess I will have a week or so of torture and then hopefully it will all be over!

Thanks for the liinks Grendle, will check them out now.

don't feel bad! my dd is almost 8 months and i want to stop before i go back to work in 3 weeks. i alternate between feeling enormously guilty and quite fed up with it all. i think it's all normal feelings. good luck!
