contraception: cerazette v micronor or condoms till stopped bf?

with my dd we used condoms for a year untill I had basically stopped bf. However that really isn't working for us this time and I am desperate to strat a non barrier form. I took micronor minipill before and it worked for me however doctor prescribed cerazette 'becuase I was breasfeeding'. I have a number of questions:

  1. what do you all think of taking a pill when bfing? do you have any evidence it may harm baby (not wprried about reduced supply as have loads and can always stop if I see an effect, risk to baby is likely to be less visble)
  2. do you know why the doctor said cerzette rather than micronor and whether it has more side effects (it is a higher dose).

I am assuming they presecibe cerazette which is higher dose as it has a longer missed pill window and new mums probably find it hard not to miss a pill.

i have just been prescribed cerazette today after finishing bf my dd but having read the leaflet it says safe to use when bf, no side effects seen.
dr said it was better as longer missed pill time and reduces periods or cen even stop them.

Have you considered a Mirena coil? I had one fitted when my DS was about 8 weeks old and it is brilliant for me. No pain at all to insert, although I understand that is not the case for everyone, and no bleeding or pain since.

Either's fine when you're breastfeeding. i had micronor, but it's not very protective when you stop b-feeding. i then went onto cerazette, which gave me two bleeds a month and v. bad pmt, I'm now on femulen, which i think is still ok for breastfeeding, and works much better for me!

Micronor and cerazette are both progesterone only
