Thinking about cutting down now (14 months) but need some help

Ds is 14 months next week. I stopped feeding dd at 13 months as I was pregnant and she stopped of her own accord.
Ds is an addict. He would still feed 5 or 6 times a day given a chance. If he ever sees my nipples (in the bath, getting dressed etc) he becomes totally obsessed with getting a feed.
I want to keep on feeding him morning and evening for now but am keen to cut down the daytime feeds for a variety of reasons (mainly eating into time with both children as he will feed for half an hour at a time, which can be up to 2 hours in the course of the day).
Any tips as to how to go about this? Have tried offering a cup and a snack, which are uncerimoniously chucked accross the room. At the weekend dh takes him when he is hungry and gets the same response.

Congratulations Susanmt - are you excited? Were you finding it sore to feed your ds before you finished? I'm still bf my dd twice a day and 12 weeks pregnant and finding it a bit painful. I want to stop feeding but not sure how to.

WedgiesMum · 18/04/2003 22:34

Fed Ds to nearly 19 months and to 20 weeks pregnant. Had to cut down gradually every couple of weeks to stop, then with the last one he fell asleep two nights on the trot before it was time to feed (tired him out and long car journey!) and never offered it again. Hard hearted I know but it made morning sickness worse and worse. BTW gave up with Dd at 20 months just recently in a similar way but without the being pregnant bit..

Congratulations Susamt.
Question for a dimwit (me). Does pregnancy make your milk dry up/ reduce supply?

susanmt · 05/06/2003 09:20

I wasn't sure where else to put this but it seemed an apropriate addition to my story - just discovered I have been accepted to train as a bfc with the ABM! Looking forward to getting into it, and being able to help some other Mums the way I have been helped here! Thanks everyone.

Great news Susanmt - well done.

WideWebWitch · 05/06/2003 09:51

Good news susanmt, I was wondering where you were and was about to post on missing persons for you.

prufrock · 05/06/2003 20:36

Excellent news for you susanmt, but even better for the mums you are going to help. Now you will of course be recommending the GF routines to promote happy breastfeeding, won't you

Tissy · 06/06/2003 16:05

I did post on missing persons for you. Twice!

Can any one help? Have an 18 week old baby who I am weaning onto solids. Since we have started she is waking up 6 times during the night and I have no idea why. Am worried she is having too much/little? How much shoudl she have? And when. Was trying to use Gina Ford but it's just not working as this has been going on for 2 weeks or more. I bottle feed using Aptamil First. Does anyone have any ideas/tips for me? Would really love to hear from someone who can help!!!!

SoupDragon · 31/05/2004 22:58

Is there a version of Aptamil for hungrier babies? Could you try that?

SoupDragon · 31/05/2004 22:58

What foods are you weaning with - maybe something's making her windier and uncomfortable?

AussieSim · 31/05/2004 23:11

I started solids following Gina's advice around the routine but not the foods and quantities when DS was 4.5mths. I followed the german guidance which has them starting weaning on pureed baby carrots - might be worth a try. HTH

aM LOATHED TO TRY THE HUNGRIER BABY FORMULA AS i DID WITH MY LAST BABY AND IT GAVE HER REALLY BAD COLIC. sHE ALSO WEANED REALLY BADLY. aM TRYING TO WEAN HER USING BABY RICE AND APPLE. dID USE pEAR BUT MADE HER VERY UNCOMFORTABLE.... BEGINNING TO FEEL DESPERATE AS SHE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A REALLY GOOD BABY AND FEEL LIKE I AM TURNING HER INTO A BAD ONE. SHE STARTED TO SLEEP THROUGH AT 9 1/2 WEEKS. WAS BREAST FEEDING HER BUT SHE STOPPED PUTTING ON WEIGHT AND SINCE I STOPPED SHE HAS NOT REALLY SLEPT THAT WELL. SINCE WEANING HER SHE HAS HAD A FEW GREAT NIGHTS SLEEPING THROUGH BUT IT ALL WENT A BIT PEAR SHAPED LAST WEEK. I RAN OUT OF BABY RICE AND THE ONLY THING AT THE SHOP WAS SOME BABY CEREAL. (21% WHEAT) I GAVE IT TO HER AS I THOGUHT IT WOULDN'T HURT JUST THE ONCE... THAT NIGHT WAS AWFUL!!!! FOLLOWING DAYS I WAS USING PEAR AND BABY RICE AS IT WAS TIME TO CHANGE FRUITS!! SINCE SHE HAS BEEN TERRIBLE. LAST NIGHT WAS UP 8 TIMES. HAVE DECIDED TO GO BACK TO FEEDING HER JUST MILK. BUT IS THIS A GOOD IDEA? HAVE I WEANED HER TOO EARLY? AND HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE? WHEN I GIVE IT TO HER (FOR LUNCH AND BEFORE BED) SHE TAKES IT REALLY WELL. WENT FROM 1 TEASOPPON TO 3 AT EACH FEED. BUT SHE JUST KEEPS TAKING IT. ALTHOUGH PEOPLE SAY YOUR BABY CAN NOT OVER FEED IS THIS REALLY THE CASE? COULD IT BE THAT GIVING HER THAT BRESKFAST CEREAL HAS TRIGGERED A WHEAT ALLERGY? AND HOW WOULD I KNOW THAT???????? AGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
