Trying to introduce a bottle to bf nearly 8 month old, what did you use that yours liked?

Mmmm, just want to give dp the odd bottle so he can give the first feed in the night so I can get some sleep in (she's still waking about 4 times). So far I have tried Hipp Organic, newborn though, and Milupa, Aptimil from 6 months. She's refusing both! I think it's probably more in protest to not being bf! I have tried in the day, waiting until very hungry and at night but she's not taken more than a couple of ounces.
Any ideas??

My dd hated the bottle but would sometimes take milk from a tippee cup. When i went back to work she finally started taking more than a couple ofsips after a couple of weeks.

Could you co-sleep? I was much less knackered once I didnt have to get up all night

Hi i BF my first to 8 months and she wouldn't take the bottle. Tried everything for 2 months, other people feeding her etc.and nothing worked was really stressfull. Eventually I gave her the bottle to play with with a drop of water in it. This was for about 5 days she then took the bottle with no probs whatsoever!!

Also i've read that you can BF then top up with a little bit of bottle immediately afterwards not sure if this helps or not?

DD refused to take the bottle till at 8 months DH made it slightly warmer and she gulped it down. (we tried everything, all formulas, bottles, even had a boob shaped one)

Have you tried expressing and letting your DP give that from a bottle? She might object less. Also, make sure you aren't in the room - many babies won't take a bottle if they know mummy is nearby with the real thing hth xo

TT closer to nature
NUK

TT 6 months+
TT 6 months+
amadeus 360 toddler cup

nappyaddict · 03/01/2009 19:34

sorry the second TT 6 months+ link should be 9 months+

Umlellala · 03/01/2009 19:35

ds is enjoying playing with NUK bottle of water (seems most ike my boob anyway, like the way milk spurts out of the holes!) and even drank 1/2 oz of expressed milk the other day!

But am mostly persevering with a cup at this age (TT first and NUK first - just ones I use/d for dd)

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 03/01/2009 19:38

what do you give water with food in? use the same for milk.

Mine had a non-valve spout cup.

BornFree are also good bottles.

I had problems with my DD to start with as she much prefered to be BF. I ended up giving her and the bottle of expressed milk to my mother who was wearing my dressing gown and leaving the house, this seemed to work. I guess she initially thought it was me! then over time changed expressed milk for Aptimil.

Good luck as I know how stressful it can be.

Tommee Tippee here too, although she didn't like the teat appropriate to her age. I'm not very good at bottles as DD is mostly bf and she took them well. A cup is good too.
