Should I wean 9mo DS onto bottles or sippy cup?

My DS is 9mo. I've decided that I'm ready to stop breastfeeding and planning to start in the next couple of days as DH is around to feed him if DS gets a bit grumpy around me. He currently has 3 feeds per day - morning, mid-afternoon and bedtime. I'm planning to drop the mid-afternoon feed and then once that has been going well for a week or two, start dropping the evening feed.

He will take a bottle usually and is okay with a sippy cup. Should I start with a bottle, or do you think it's better just to go straight to a sippy cup? What about the night and morning feeds - should they be in bottles, or is a sippy cup okay for those even at 9mo? I'm concerned he might not take in enough milk if I use a sippy cup, but don't want to have to bother with weaning off bottles almost as soon as I've got him on them IYSWIM.

Thanks!

Also, would you wean onto follow-on formula or stay with the initial formula? He has had aptamil stage 1 in the past (was mix fed for a long time but back to just bf for a while now). I know follow on is so they can do marketing etc., but just wondered if there is nutritional value in using that anyway now seeing as he is not on formula currently so I need to decide what to use.

Would wean straight onto a cup, it will help to avoid weaning from bottle to cup blah blah

Aptamil is by far the best formula when changing from breast milk but i would try the follow on formula now esp if you're worried about the amount he will take from a cup.
As he's over 6 months old the follow on should be ok.

Could you combine both? Fort instance. bottle morning and bedtime, cup during the day? I used (and am using) Aptamil when going from breast to bottle with all of mine and never went past stage 1. They all continued to grow! I assume you are also weaning, so using a sippy cup for water or other drinks? I always used bottles am/pm and a cup in between until they were 1 (I think I did anyway - sometimes it all gets a bit hazy!)

they can have a cup but then you are taking away most of the sucking pleasure in life.(is only my opinion) but is what works for you and the baby, but to me is a bit of a jump from breastfeeding on demand to spout cup at under a year. is only my opinion, others may find it works well. 9 months sounds old but they still love to suck at that age. or combine both like daisy sparkle said
