Help! I'm having BF issues! My baby is 17 days old. She has been breast feeding really well and gaining weight nicely. But...here are my issues:

  1. She has been feeding every 2 hours, day and night, and has now started to go even shorter periods, often only an hour or 90 mins between feeds, which is exhausting, especially at night.
  1. When she feeds it's only for 5-10 mins. She seems to get plenty of milk (has loads of milk round her mouth, I can hear a good swallow.
  1. She's sick loads! She brings back a bit (mouthful) with wind after a feed but then wakes up from sleep with a big vomit, or vomits when the next feed is due. If I try to get her to take a longer feed, she's just even more sick
  1. My left nipple is getting very sore! It really hurts when she latches on but eases off a bit when she feeds, although it is getting worse.Have got some Lansinoh but it's not helped yet!

Should I keep feeding through the sore one? Am I unrealistic to expect her to go longer between her feeds at this age?
Will she be getting the hind milk if she only has such short feeds?

Also, my boobs were feeling really full and hard and lumpy, but now feel much more comfortable and emptier, but does that mean I'm running out of milk? I feel the let-down and one boob often leaks when I'm feeding from the other, so there seems to be enough at the moment.

Sorry for all the questions!!! Can anyone help?

Thanks xxx

Have posted on t'other thread Trace, but wanted to add that DS was a fast and frequent feeder - 5-10 mins and at least every 2 hours - and I didn't have much luck getting him to feed longer/go longer between feeds until he was bigger.

Doesn't sound at all like you're running out of milk

thanks Effie! I guess they're all different - it just worries me when others say their babies feed for an hour at a time and mine is so fast!

I know I worried a lot about it as well. Then realised that DS was piling on the weight so there couldn't be much wrong

you may find that when/if yo come to expressing it is a complete doddle (I did, could get loads in v little time)
