10 week old now fussing and crying during feeding

my little girl is just 10 weeks old and until the last week has loved her bottle feeds. We are on Aptamil first milk and she regularly demolishes four - five 5 or 6oz bottles every 4 - 4.5 hours.

However since her first baby innoculations on monday every feed has become a battle. She is gripey throughout either spitting out her milk, pulling off the bottle and screaming (even when we wind her during the feed) and anything up to 2 hours after feeding she has started getting reflux action which is either cottage cheese consistency milk or like the scene from the Exorcist (nice!).

She has gripe water with her feeds as she has been a windy baby since being born a month prem and this does help her bring her wind up but even after we spend a good 40 minutes winding her after feeds once she goes down she wakes up screaming in pain as she tries to pass wind through either end.

She is on the avent no.2 teats and her milk is always nicely warm and not made in advance.

Could it really be the after affects of her baby jabs a whole week later or should I discuss with my HV moving to a sensitive tummy milk?

She was always such a good feeder/sleeper (she goes through the nite from a 10pm feed to 8am no problem) so this change has been really noticed.

Thanks

hi, my only thought is it could be reflux - acid coming back up her esophagus and hurting her during the feed.

my 20 week old guy is breast fed but he often has a similar scream during feeding, coming on and off the breast.

yeah i thought about reflux but its the wind in her tummy that seems to cause her the most grief - cant really see if this is a symptom of reflux. ?My head is full of stuff and i feel so shattered and distressed when i cant fix things for her and make her better.

It is all a bit of a mystery but it seems to me that my DS gets all screamy and in pain when he is trying to pass wind (farting). We went to a cranial osteopath and they mentioned that when they are straining with wind, the acid can go back up the other end and hurt them.

It was always difficult to wind DS too, and then it would cause him so much pain coming out his bum.

i know it's terrible when you just want them to be comfortable and settled.

Hopefully it is just a phase - things really do change a lot in the first few months.

sorry to not be more helpful! hang in there.

Thanks chandellina, thats an interesting post about the straining she certainly does a lot of that to try and pass wind out her botty. Burping she's a little star at. I dont really want to change her milk as she's been so good on it since day one so will persevere with what we have so far.

my ds did exactly the same it lasted 4 3 weeks. he was on aptamil 1st. i went backwards & 4wards 2 the drs & hv they were no help, just kept saying its normal, he'd get over it! that didn't help the worry & stress of it all tho. I eventually changed him on2 aptamil easy digest its still the same brand of formula so the transition isn't as bad as if u change 2 a different brand& he settled almost straight away. it may have been a phase or it may have been the change in milk, whatever it was he's now feeding like a star again.
