swapping over from formula to ''real milk'' - baby doesn't want to drink anymore.....

hi

DS2 had his 1 year check the other week a couple of weeks early due to the xmas holidays etc (he's 11 1/2months now). The Dr said that when I ran out of formula I could switch him over to regular cows milk.

So, I ran out yesterday and have offered him 2 bottles of cows milk which after a little taste, he hasn't wanted to drink. Now, I guess I don't know whether or not he just doesn't want milk or it's the change over to cows milk which is the problem......Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Do you think I should persevere with the cows miolk or go out and buy some more formular? (I'm trying to compensate so will make some soup for lunch with lots of milk etc....)

Thanks

Why don't you give him half milk half formula (or as much cow's milk as he will tolerate) and gradually up the percentage of milk.

Or give him cow's milk in a cup so he's not expecting nice sweet formula?

I would do it very gradually .... add a little more milk to the formula every few days until he gets used to it. Im sure it tastes very different and must be a bit of a shock to the system!

I did a gradual switchover. Oz by oz.

I tried going straight from formula to cow's milk with the first baby and had the bottle hurled across the kitchen.

Then I did what I should have done in the first place and just replaced an ounce of the formula with an ounce of cow's milk and increased the amount of cow's milk day by day.

It worked with her and with number two.

Well... This could get me well and truly flamed. But. I put half a spoonful of chocolate nesquik powder or sugar in the bottle when I first changed DS from formula to cow's milk as he wouldn't drink it plain either and I just didn't know what to do. I did that for a week or two (being extra-vigilant with toothbrushing ofc) and then just stopped adding anything, and he didn't notice at all.

This swapping ounce by ounce thing sounds much more sensible though

My mum told me to give the milk in a different bottle (I used one of those sigg bottles with a sport (?) lid). Just about half a cup. If he didn't like it I was prepared to add a small spoon of milo (which I later did just for enjoyment). THis also got rid of needing bottles by 12 months!
