They are hot because they're working hard. Seriously. Your milk glands are enormously active making all that lovely milky for baby HJ. So their metabolic rate is through the roof. Increased cellular metabolism translates into heat being produced and given off.
Mine are hot too but I need the minuscule version of your emoticon.

And speaking of cells...

Breasts, that is, milk glands, are actually modified sweat glands if you look at the cellular structure. (Don't ask me why anyone would want to, though.)
I remember a professor at uni in my histology course telling us that that's why nursing women sometimes sweat under the armpits when the milk lets down.
I was at this and thought I'd flushed that particular piece of useless trivia.
Until I had Jackbaby, started nursing him and found myself... sweating!!
Guess my prof was right.
