just keep feeding as often as possible. best way to increase supply.
after a while your boobs do go softer, it happens to everyone, so not necessarily related to his illness etc.

popsycal · 03/12/2008 20:29

yeah they do g o softer i know but they are practically concave

oats have galactogogue properties.

lots of porridge and flapjacks, and as TIY said, lots and lots of feeding. You could maybe try and do some extra expressing, especially at night to try and give your supply a boost.

I hope your DS is on the mend

popsy why were you in hospital? or was it him? were you apart? i have seen tiktok post about babies being upset by this. i would just feed A LOT as in not doing anything else for a few days.

ilovemydog · 03/12/2008 20:39

My supply stopped, and I mean came to a total halt after we were in a car crash, probably due to shock.

My GP prescribed something or other, and suggested just feeding lots and lots. Tik suggested skin to skin and feeding lots. All the things one does initally for a newborn. (and sleeping together which we already did anyway)

It didn't come back all at once, but rather gradually, and about 72 hours later, we were back on track

popsycal, not sure of what you are asking about, sorry....who was in hospital, you or the baby? I take it this was you - and the baby was not there??? Please do write to the hospital about the lack of breastpumps - they cost very little compared to other hospital equipment.

But you know what to do - skin to skin, lots of feeding, stay close, stay loving, stay patient.

Yes, if you have been separated from ds, he is gonna notice. He loves you and knows when you are not around and when his life is different. He cannot understand. He will come round, though, as will your milk

sorry to hijack your thread popsycal, but tiktok, can you help over here?

tiktok · 03/12/2008 21:33

OOPS

popsycal · 04/12/2008 08:33

sorry tp be vague
ds3 was in hospital wihth bronchiolitis and suspected pneumonia - I was with him
the children's ward had one breast pump and it was being used by a mother whose breast fed baby had a feeding tube
maternity had none spare
had we been in longer, i would have got dh to bring in my own pump
supply seems to be building up
had a nother night of feedin g
unfortunate;y doing the skin to skin thing is tricky with 2 other boisterous boys around

I hope that it is coming back

regarding writing letters

i have 2 to write - one to the hospital to complain about lack of breast pumps and anohter to the out of hours doctors who said to come down at 11:30 at night in -5 temperatures with an 11 week old baby with breathing problems and a silly high temp only to arrive and find the on call gp had gone home ads he finished at 11:30 and the stupid doctor who was on the phone told us to go straight downthen we ended up with 2 visits to a and e - one straight aftr gp then one at 3:30 in the morning

then we nearly had to be transferred 12 miles across town as the childrens ward had a room but no cot (then i suggested could they not nick one from the childrens assessment unit next door as it didnt open til 10am - which they eventually did_)

grrrrr
anyway
onwards and upwards

popsycal - what a rotten time for you all. Poorly babies need time to get over the emotional side of being ill and it's likely your baby will be in need of quite a bit of TLC at the moment. He will bounce back. Good luck getting a response with the letters.

with skin to skin contact you can cheat at home by wearing your baby in a carry mai tai style sling next to you then wear a big t shirt over the top. that way you can chase your kids at home but still have your baby close.
i used a www.snugbaby.co.uk sling as its okay next to bear skin.
good luck with continued feeding.
