Low water intake in 8mo bf baby and worried about to switch to formula

My 8mo DS has 3 breastfeeds a day. I've decided that I need to stop breastfeeding sometime soon, so was planning to start switching to formula slowly over Christmas with aim of him being fully formula fed by end January.

My main concern is that at the moment DS takes in very little water during the day. He goes 7am-3pm between breastfeeds but will usually take no more than 1oz of water split between a post-nap drink and his lunchtime intake. Very occasionally he'll take 2oz but that is rare. He then takes barely any water at teatime - 10ml or so.

It took a while to find a cup he could drink from but he now uses the very basic tommee tippee cup and definitely can drink. He just doesn't seem to want very much despite me offering it regularly at meals and also after his morning nap.

Do I need to ensure his water intake is increased before I switch to formula, or is this fairly normal for a bf baby and can I assume that his water intake will naturally increase once he is on formula?

You can only offer it, right? I find that dd drinks more water some days than others, although I don't really measure it because I figure if it's always offered she'll take it when she's thirsty.

She is also on 3-4 feeds a day and has water with her meals.
