The very ends of my nipples are sore at the start of each feed - when can I expect them to "toughen up" ? Over 3 weeks since birth BTW

DS2 was tongue tied but was snipped at 1 week 1 day

The very ends of my nipples get very sharp pains at the beginning of each feed, I'm sure the latch is correct, do I just need to wait for htem to toughen up?

I'm sure this didn't happen with my other two babies!

Hi MamaG - how is lovely Harry James? (I remember his name from your birth story ). It took me about that long for my nipples to really toughen up. Can you get any homeopathics where you live? I found Phytolacca really helped with sore nipples. (3 pilules every 15 min to an hour until pain goes away, then 3 pilules 3 or 4 times a day.)
Good luck!

Do they lose colour MamaG? vasospasm can be caused by poor latch

Or is he getting the nipple in far enough? could it be rubbing a wee bit on the roof of his mouth?

Can you try adjusting his positioning and attachment slightly?

Mine feel very sore still at nearly four weeks, but DS2's latch is still poor, and I have a very painful letdown.

MamaG - so sorry, I just found your post from about ten days ago when you asked whom to approach to go through your notes - I wasn't ignoring you, just didn't see it - IMO best person to approach would be head widwife where you gave birth. If she's not cooperative, then your GP.

Thank you both

Baby is fine, thriving and an extremely happy, placid baby. I can't believe how quiet he is - he will lay in his moses basket, awake, quite happily (DS1 was a PITA tbh, he would scream unless held!) - whole family besotted with him!

Think I'll get HV to check the latch again. My HV is very into homeopathic stuff and the HV in next town who works closely with mine is actually a homeopath. I will discuss with her when I see her on Weds I think.

Daisy I'm not 100% sure whether they do lose colour, the odd time he's come off the breast when he's only just got on it (if that makes sense) the end of my nipple was pale, almost white, but by the end of a big feed, they are normal colour. I change position regularly with him from feed to feed

Oh, I have the pale end-of-the-nipple thing too when he comes off after or during a feed, thought it was weird, asked some girlfriends who have nursed, they said they had it too and so did any women they asked. So I think that's normal (if a bit odd... but gosh, there have been so many things about my body that I thought were odd since I've had BabyJ that now I just shake my head and assume it's normal if it doesn't hurt).
Not to hijack your BF thread but how are you feeling about HJ's birth now? Doing better?
