Cracked/cut nipple won't heal

DS is 6 weeks old and I have a crack in my right nipple which looks like an open wound after a feed. I have been working on the latch and have now worked out how to get him on without pain but I have to really concentrate on it as the right one is slightly flat. Still, the crack just doesn't seem to heal. If I'm not in pain, is this a worry long term? Am very careful at keeping it clean, changing pads and apply Lansinoh before and after every feed. Does anyone have any idea if it will heal up in its own time? Saw GP who prescribed antibs and Fluconzale in case of thrush which I don't think I have as it doesn't sound like the symptoms other people on here have described.

Sydney, your wound must be nearly healed now eh?!!

SydneyB · 27/11/2008 21:05

Well, I am completely pain free and the crack has healed but the hole is still there and does still open up when he feeds but is getting smaller so am hoping gone in a couple of days. Just loving not being in any pain to be honest! Has also coincided with DS's feeding calming down a bit and me overflowing with milk so am feeling pleased with bf all round.

sydney i am so happy for you. It is such a pleasure to breastfeeding when there is no pain. Thanx to silverette you have carried on - just like i did.

hows things Sydney?

SydneyB · 29/11/2008 16:42

Well, the hole is still there but it doesn't hurt at all so I'm really not worried. I think actually looking back on it that DS took a bit of a chunk out at the beginning, ow. But we're happily feeding and I'm so pleased not to be in pain. My sis in law is pg and I am definitely going to pass them on to her when the time comes!

are you still wearing them now though? Surely if you are the hole will be getting smaller.

Yup I am and I'm sure it is. Slowly though. But I just find the silverette so comfortable and soothing. Apart from anything else it stops the nipple rubbing. Had a few accidents taking it on and off though with overflowing milk!

Sydney,
You are more than welcome. I am just glad that you took my advice and believed in them. So many people will not try the unknown but in this case it is so well worth trying! It definately saved my bfing relationship. I am so happy for you now you can enjoy breastfeeding whole heartedly

Gone gone gone! Silverettes packed away carefully for good friends and yes, maybe DD once day.
