Help! Sore white bit on tip of nipple, feel very ill and feeding hurts- thrush?

Ds is 5 months now and feeding has been going well. But today I feel very ill, very achey all over and just rubbish. Feeding from the right side has been very painful, and I have just noticed what looks like a white blister where the milk comes out (I had thought it was milk tbh). I feel so ill, like tonsillitus reall, except I had them out 18 months ago could it be related? Ds is poorly too, could his snotty nose and runny eyes somehow have infected me?

It might be mastitis.

If you can, get a sterile pin and pop the blister (wait till someone else tells you to though as I have only read it on here, not done it myself)

It miught release the blocked milk. Keep feeding from the painful side after that, to clear it - massage your breast towards the nipple as you feed and and apply warm flannels to it or have a hot bath.

With any luck you'll clear it but if you still feel fluey tomorrow, go to see someone as you might need antibiotics.

I hope its not mastitis- had it 3 times before but never like this. It feels so sore. Not liking the pin idea!

Great link flight thanks. Maybe it is a blocked duct then. Have tried squeezing and no milk comes out of that bit so I don't want it to build up

Oh poor thing

Fwiw I would have LOVED to have the opportunity to unblock mine - I didn't get the little blister though! So nothing to pop.

Its a blocked duct. It should go in a day or so. Sympathise about the pain though.I had it a few times.

Am too afraid to pop with a pin Am going to try a warm compress and some expressing. If I can't clear it do I still need antibiotics or will it just go? Is this the reason I feel so fluey do you think?

If you're feeling really fluey then it does sound like it could be mastitis - have a look at this page, which compares symptoms of blocked ducts and mastitis. Blocked ducts don't normaly give flu type symptoms by themselves .

It is possible that its co-incidence and that you have a cold/flu at the same time as a blocked duct, but if you still feel rotten on Monday I'd probably be heading to the Drs.

There was a thread a while back that had a LOT of suggestions on how to clear blocked ducts, but search is playing silly buggers for me right now and I can't find it - I posted on it and it had the words "ping" "olive" and "oil" in there, amongst many others.

Fingers crossed you feel better soon.

Thank you for all these suggestions. I let ds feed before I put him down and I was crying because it just hurt so much So then I got out the pump and a warm flannel and I could see the duct swell with the pressure of each squeeze (how nice eh?!) but NO milk was coming out. So I bit the bullet and got the pin. I was actually shaking I as so worried But I can happily report that it doesn't hurt to do at all I expressed again to try and get rid of the rapidly developing lump which is a sure sign of mastitis for me and I got 4 oz off that one duct So thank you to everyone who suggested the pin as without it I would no doubt have been very very poorly by the morning. I hope that's it now and that I am just feeling under the weather with the bug ds seems to have.
