Could change in my diet cause vomiting in bfed 5 month old?

My exclusively breastfed 5 month old baby has been vomiting on and off for 24 hours. Probably a tummy bug (though she has no fever) and I have been feeding little and often and giving a bit of Dioralyte, but at the back of my mind I am worrying because this started a couple of days after I changed my diet.

I have gone back to a 'controlled carb' way of eating, where I eat carbohydrates only once a day and the rest of the time it's protein and green veg.

I need to eat this way (when not pg / immediate postpartum) to have any energy and to keep depression at bay so I'm really hoping that it won't have affected the milk - but if a change in diet could be upsetting her tummy, I should really put off going back on the diet for a few more months.

Any thoughts?

I can't think of any way your diet could cause this, systemsaddict....your diet is well within normal. Sometimes, very sensitive babies seem to react to maternal diet, and we don't always know why, but vomiting without fever in a healthy thriving baby is also well within normal, so my (amateur) money is on it being a total co-incidence. Obv, if you think your baby is ill or under-nourished as a result of the vomiting, then you'll see a doc or HV.

How's the baby today?

Thanks puzzlerocks and tiktok - was hoping you'd see this. She's better today, no proper vomiting since last night, just her usual posseting. A wee bit dehydrated I think - nappies drier than usual and smelly breath - but she's quite alert and seems well when she's awake and feeding OK now so that should sort itself out. She's had what I think is diarrhoea since yesterday - lots of v. pale yellow mucusy poos which smell rather odd - settling down now - so I'm leaning towards tummy bug. I'll keep a good eye on her.

The change in diet does mean I'm eating a lot more dairy so that was one thing I was a bit worried about. It's helpful to know it's only 'sometimes' that babies react to maternal diet, as there is a lot of talk about such things around.
