Do you think BF has affected your sex life?

Just wondering... apols if this should really be in relationships.

Oh yes. Def not as up for it.

Went back to normal after periods restarted though.

scorpio1 · 20/11/2008 11:11

No, sex drive still the same. Though early morning before feed sex is harder if you include breasts, iyswim, as they are full. Apart from that, all good.

Pannacotta · 20/11/2008 11:13

Not really, am sure I would have been too tired to have much sex in the first few weeks/months however I was feeding.
Periods came back after 6 months both times and I was prob more up for it then (though could aslo be as I was getting more sleep by then too).

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/11/2008 11:13

Def yes.

I always notice that I am 'up for it' around ovulation, so not ovulating and being knackered isn't a great combination.

FourArms · 20/11/2008 11:16

Like ILikeToMoveIt, my sex drive is highest when I'm ovulating. However, my periods came back after about 9 weeks with DS1, and a few months with DS2, so I haven't really noticed much of a difference.

I don't think BFing has affected anything...two small babies however have had a devastating impact!

gingerninja · 20/11/2008 11:19

No. Obviously sometimes it's a physical barrier if you've got a baby between the two of you but can't say I noticed a difference emotionally or from a desirability point of view either.

JessJess3908 · 20/11/2008 11:26

I wondered if it was a situational or hormonal thing. Also if your DP or DH feels differently towards you when you're BF?

For me the biggest dampner (quite literally) is wearing a bra the whole time and either leaking or worrying about leaking all the time.

Not at all. Dh loved my full breasts and didnt mind the occasional squirt. Sex drive didnt suffer at all.

MrsBadger · 20/11/2008 13:04

No - it was having a baby at all that did

determination · 20/11/2008 13:19

definately both times. I had none at all unti my periods returned and that wasn't until well over 1 year both times! - my poor dh! the thought of it made me shiver in disgust!

gingerninja · 20/11/2008 13:21

My DH certainly wasn't put off. For the first time in my life I had a pair of breasts, he liked them very much. Don't think he cared a jot what they were being used for outside the bedroom.

determination · 20/11/2008 13:36

i couldnt even think of my dh touching my breasts.. they were for feeding dd and nothing else. the thought of any sexual activity repulsed me until i got my periods back.

TinkerBellesMum · 20/11/2008 14:09

Nope, I counted down the six weeks until we could! I've always had a high sex drive though

jelliebelly · 20/11/2008 14:11

No sex drive whatsoever whilst feeding. Breasts have always played a major role in our sex life until ds came along iykwim but I couldn't bear the thought of dh touching them - and neither could he - I think the idea that he might get a facefull of milk put him right off

scorpio1 · 20/11/2008 14:12

you don't hae to wait 6 weeks, unless advised to

sfxmum · 20/11/2008 14:18

no did not feel different or made to feel different, but tiredness did affect drive particularly in the beginning, and I bf for over 2 yrs

same for me as determination.

RedSparklersOnHerHead · 20/11/2008 14:31

no, mine was fine first time and this time, but this time I have had problems with a loop biopsy on the cervix which got infcted and that has put me off for fear of bleeding more.

Jojay · 20/11/2008 14:36

Yes. Hardly any sex drive while feeding. Felt much drier when we did try and had to use lubrication. Also hated feeling leaky and padded up to the max all the time.

Much better when I stopped feeding.

amitymama · 20/11/2008 14:42

Yeah, sex drive was pretty bad until I stopped breastfeeding DD at 18 months. DS is 9 weeks old and we have yet to do the deed.

TinkerBellesMum · 20/11/2008 14:45

I was told after all three pregnancies not to until after the six week check. I had my six week early after Tink because we were going away for the weekend.

scorpio1 · 20/11/2008 14:51

Oh, mine have always said whenever you like, just that it was encouraged before 6 week check so any issues could be chatted about. Same with all 3 of mine. I was low risk pg and vb though, maybe different for you?

TinkerBellesMum · 20/11/2008 15:04

The third time I had a crash section so could understand it then. The other two pregnancies ended at 8 weeks and 20 weeks ("normal" VB). I'm not the only one I know who's been told it.
