attempting bottle feed of ebm for 1st time - quick question

I managed to express 2.5oz for my 2.5wk old DS this afternoon so want to try to get him to feed from it tonight - I drained the boob and he normally feeds for about 20mins wihtout draining.

Should I do the ebm first then if he drinks it all and is still hungry put him on the boob, or do boob first then top him up with EBM?

Want to slowly introduce the evening feed by bottle so DH can do it when he gets in

I would give the bottle first and then finish on breast so you know he is not being overfed.

Are you going to pump when your DH gives the bottle? Otherwise you risk decreasing your supply if you skip a feed.

Most lactation consultants would advise waiting until at least four weeks to express and give a bottle. Is there a particular reason your DH needs to give the baby the evening feed?

we're just giving it a go tonight, my midwife suggested expressing some so we can top him up when he gets anxsty...also we're hoping (perhaps selfishly) to go out for an hour on our own on Thurs leaving my mum with the baby so want to leave ebm in case he needs it

my midwife said so long as it was after 2 weeks it should be fine...hadn't thought about pumping when DH gives the bottle though...

Is breastfeeding well established otherwise? If there have been any problems (with latch, weight gain, nipple soreness, etc..) I would be be wary of pumping and introducing a bottle so soon. If things are going swimmingly then I suppose there's not a problem with it, but keep a close watch that he doesn't start to get nipple confusion.

If it's just an hour you want to go out for, could you just give him a nice big feed just before you go and leave your mum to wind, change and hold him for an hour?

thanks for response - BF has been going fine, he took the bottle ok (gave him a big feed beforehand anyway)...now just utterly confused about the whole expressing when he gets a bottle so think I'll wait til his times have settled down before we introduce it regularly, off to start a whole new thread - never thought it could be this complicated!
