Kellymom says NEVER microwave EBM. Why not?

Am just curious as I have tried to get my DTs to take some EBM that I had defrosted and then microwaved a bit to warm it up. They turned their noses up in disgust. I was just thinking that it was because they prefer it directly from the source but maybe the microwaving did something nasty to it?

Think it destroys the nutrients - remember reading the same about veg when weaning ds, and was terribly pfb about it. Now, as a full-time working mother, if it can be nuked it goes in!

Just found this which is interesting.

BetteNoire · 16/11/2008 20:07

thought it was because of hot spots?

BetteNoire · 16/11/2008 20:08

sorry, x-posted with habbibu's link, which states "Hot spots do not appear to be the true reason for avoiding the microwave".

I'll get my coat.

Thanks Habbibu, that is interesting. Maybe my DTs knew that the anti-infective properties had been partly destroyed and therefore decided it wasn't worth drinking.
