7mo DS is ill and has lost his appetite for milk but not for solids. When to worry?

DS has a chest infection and has been quite poorly for about 5 days now.

He's still interested in solids but not in milk, even though I always give him the milk first. I think he's just lost his appetite because he's under the weather and the solids are more fun to play with (spoon-fed breakfast, finger food lunch and dinner). But I don't know how long he can manage on such a small amount of milk or when I need to worry about him getting dehydrated/lacking nutrients. I'm trying to give him more dairy to make up for it - lots of cheese chunks, pasta with cheese sauce etc but he still sees food more as something to play with rather than to scoff. Oh and he has water with his solids.

Routine something like this:

7am bf - usually about 15 mins, currently about 5
8.30 breakfast
11am 7oz bottle - he took 2oz this morning
12pm lunch
3pm 7oz bottle - again, he's taken 2oz today
5.30 dinner
6.30 bf - anything up to 30 mins usually, around 5/10 at the moment.

He's not even PFB though you wouldn't believe it to read this essay...

I am no expert but it sounds quite normal. Both my DD's 'went off' milk (BF) in the first couple of months of being weaned. Appetite for it came back at about 8 months.
Chest infection may also be playing a part.

Don't worry for now- from what you write it sounds like he is getting enough.

my ds2 is 7 months and has also gone completely off his milk. absolutely loves food though.

He does drink in the evening and night (grr) but not at all during the day.

V annoying as I'm sure he isn't getting enough calories during the day so this is why he is waking up in the night when previously he didn't.

Thanks for your messages - good to know it might have happened anyway and that it's perfectly normal. I'm hoping he's not going to start waking at night though Pollyanna - sorry to hear about that!

Anyway, the little monkey happily had a longer bf first thing and had 5oz of his bottle which is a huge improvement. So I'll just keep trying and see how we go

My ds didn't seem to want much milk at 7 months so just had milk at bed time. Sure it's perfectly normal and he'll be getting alot from solids anyway. It might just be coz he not well.
