4 month old DS still feeding every 3 hours or less!

hi, just wondering if anyone has any advice. DS is 4 months, and lovely and chubby on bf only However, he still needs frequent feeding, most of the time every 2.5-3 hours, occasionally a bit longer. I put him down to sleep at 8 after a feed, then feed again at 11pm, and he's still waking in the night at least twice. I think this is partly because i end up bringing him to bed and feeding at the least whimper but i'm too sleepy to get out of bed and rock him! Any suggestions or will this sort itself out?

It'll sort itself out eventually. Do you wake him at 11, or does he wake for it ? If you wake him, then I'd not bother and see what happens.

my DS is almost 16 weeks and i feed her every three hours too. Im not really sure how long i should leave between feeds (I did borrow a certain baby book which told me, but got so freaked out by the strict routines in it that i threw it away!) she seems hungry every three hours though, and as i can usually feed her wherever we are it doesnt really bother me.

she also fed at 7pm, 11pm, 2am and 5am last night, as i always feed her back to sleep during the night, but she sometimes does 5 or 6 hour stretches sometimes.. The only thing i found to make her sleep longer is to sit up to feed her in the night, rather than having her lie next to me in the bed and feed her, as I can put her back in her cot the minute she drops off, rather than having her 'snack' at my boob throughout the night, which is exhausting!

sorry ? i lied, i actually have a daughter, not a son! i blame this error on lack of sleep!

normal, DS did the same. Hopefully the feeds will stretch out a bit soon, but bear in mind that 4/5 months is also a BIG growth spurt time

yes DS snacks all night, have just read that this can cause tooth decay! not that he has teeth yet, but should nip it in the bud..if only I can summon the energy to sit up to feed instead of lying down!

I fed my dd every 3 hours until I switched to ff at 6mo. Since then, she has gone every 4 hours and after her 11pm feed, sleeps through til breakfast (sometimes) which is still a breastfeed. I wouldnt worry about it, it will sort itself out eventually. i used to blame everything on growth spurts hehehe think it kept me sane!!!

You might not want to hear this, but I sat up and fed ds1 - we never could latch on lying down - and he continued to feed at least every three hours for 12 months. Sorry. DS2 did as well but we co-slept and I didn't mind second time around.

Neither of mine were very interested in solids, until c 12 months. Ds1 was on the 90th centile - huge and very very active. Both just loved their feeds.

I remember reading that about tooth decay, too, but in the end, having a contented toddler, who fed regularly, whether for sustainance or comfort, suited us best.
