Do you know where breastfeeding statistics are gathered from?

Just out of curiosity really. Reason I ask is went for 8 month assesment this week and mentioned I was still bf but the HV never wrote it in the red book, even though there is a box to tick for it. Guess this is not where the stats come from, is it more surveys they take from people?? Have you ever been surveyed?

Breastfeeding statistics are collected by the NHS at birth and at the 6/8 week check.

Local Primary Care Trusts may collect data after this age if they want to, but I doubt many do as it's not required of them.

Any figures quoted after 6-8 weeks of age are estimates based on the infant feeding survey which was last done in 2005.
