DS currently has 3 bottles of 7oz of Number 2 Aptamil every day. He turns one in two weeks. So what do I do then re his milk? Follow on formula or milk and how many bottles of either?

My DD will be one on the 20tha dn I have just changed her to cows milk now. I find that she can actually be a little hungrier than normal on it so I am just letting her have it as and when she wants.

She only had 4 5oz bottles of formula a day but she has been having 4 7oz bottles of cows milk.

That sounds like quite a lot of milk still. I would definitely change to cow's milk - he will be perfectly OK and it will save you loads of money.

Full fat cow's milk from what I know. My friend has just changed her ds over from Aptamil to cow's milk and just mixed the cow's milk in with the formula, gradually reducing the amount of formula and increasing the cow's milk, until he was drinking all cow's milk. I think otherwise it can be a bit of taste shock for them, because formula is very sweet?

Follow-on milk is a big con, the only reason they brought it out was to get round the advertising ban on first milks!

Just go straight to cow's milk. No need to introduce slowly. You'll prob find she prefers it.

Cows milk, follow on milk is a big waste of money and time.

No 2 aptamil is follow on milk isnt it?
Cows milk after 1 year is fine!

Bubbaluv · 06/11/2008 09:15

Number 3 is the follow on.
I give cows milk with a little bit of hot formula just to take the edge off the cold. He won't touch it if it's fridge temp.

OK, so do I just give the three bottles of 7 oz of cows milk a day until he decides that he wants less milk?

dd went straight from formula to cows milk (luckily she liked her formula milk cold) and she didn't even seem to notice!

I changed her middle of the day milk to water so that she gets milk when she wakes up and milk at bed and cups of water throughout the day.

She likes 8/9oz in the morning (then breakfast about half an hour later) and about 4oz at night (probably because her tummy is still full fromtea so she doesn't need so much) - but every baby is different.

It will depend how much your DC eats and if you can sustitute water or similar for a milk feed. DS won't take more than a few mls of water and barely eats anything at all, so if I removed a milk feed he'd likely fade away!
