Shooting pains in boob and nipple - is that thrush?

DD is five weeks and bfing going well so far, but the last couple of days I've had shooting/throbbing pains in my boobs and nipples. It's very occasional and DD doesn't seem to be suffering from any mouth pain (she fusses when on the boob occasionally but I think that's reflux). Does that sound like thrush? Or is it some weird thing that happens at five weeks?

Hi there, I had persistent deep breast thrush for a while so hope I can help.

Contrary to what you might think, the little one won't neccessarily show it or suffer themselves, I only had it in my right boob.

The nipple was red and inflamed, and when my son latched on it fellt like needles of glass being sucked through the nipple, accompanied by shooting pains from deep at the bottom of the breast. It really hurts. I wouldn't waste any time getting checked out my the doc or your local B/F councellor, as the sooner you can be prescribed somthing to clear things up the better.

I had no luck with medication, but some alternative stuff really helped me, let me know if you want a link to a previous thread about it.

Thanks Link to thread would be good. Sounds horrid - hope you're okay now.

I don't have any other symptoms and it's not too painful (yet), just can't think what else it could be!

You might want to check out your latch and possible problems like vasospasm as well as getting checked out for thrush.

there are some good links on Kellymom for ither problems that can cause thrush like symptoms.

I had persisitent thrush like symptoms in one boob with DD for nearly six months. It was a revelation when it finally cleared after four doses of fluconazole tablets.
