Been feeding on and off for 2 hours now, each time she comes off the boob she is sick, but then cries until i put her back on. seems little point to the whole cycle, but don't know how to break it

changed nappy 3 times over the 2 hours too

she sounds like she is getting rid of all the mucas left over from being inside of you. I have had each of mine do this......anything up to day 3 or 4.

also, day three, you should be getting your milk in now so the consistancy changes and the flow is different so it could be that....she is just adjusting to you.

don;t fret, this won;t last long.

PsychoGuyFawkesMum · 02/11/2008 00:25

oooh....and each of mine hit what I called a 'feeding frenzy' on about day 3/4 as well. they would feed almost constantly for about 24 hours, and then settle again.

the midwife who checked her over yesterday said something about being a bit mucusy and to let/help her be sick. didn't realise she meant this much sick! good to know ut's serving a purpose

well, you think how much stuff they swollow from being inside you, it has to come out, and not always being poohed out.

they can be very sick in the first few days. not all babies are, but I have five, and all mine were.

congratulations BTW

DS1 was like this when we were still in hospital - started being sick a couple of hours after he was born.

In the end, my milk came in on day 3 and he couldn't latch on because I was so engorged so the mw ended up giving me an electric pump to relieve the pressure and DS a couple of ounces of formula. I reckon the whole lot came back out of his mouth and nose as I remember it, seemed like galleons, and he was OK after that.

I am not suggesting you give your DD formula (it put me off giving it to DS for a long, long time I can tell you) but that if she is sick a lot for a day or so then it will clear the mucus pretty effectively if that is what it is.

It is good that she is happy to feed though, DS didn't want to feed much for the first 3 days as the mucus filled his tummy and left him very sleepy and he ended up jaundiced.
