Can I have a 'there, there'? Ds appears to have weaned and I wasn't really ready for it to end

We've had 18 lovely months.

Ok, 16 lovely months, one crapola month (see previous thread) and one trailing-off month. And now we've got 48hrs without him asking once

I feel bad because I actually did like feeding him, it was only the nasty pinchy comfort latch I wanted to stop, but he seems to have quit altogether.

Should be happy, would like to ttc, but just feel about it.

I think sometimes kids can go a few days though, and then start up again.

I had to stop bf-ing ds, my choice, not his as it was sooooo painful because of the pg. When he stopped asking I felt really sad - even though I'd been trying to "force" him off IYSWIM. I'm hoping he'll want to start again when the new baby arrives.

So...I know how how you feel.

thanks thisisyesterday, but he really wound himself down - for the past week he has wanted to see my breasts (and pat them, or lay his cheek on them) when going to sleep, now not even that!

I'm 5 and a bit months - so aaaaaaaages to go yet.

It was painful from about 12 weeks, and we managed to get about 20 weeks ...

So ds was 20 months when we stopped.

Awwwww. Well done though, you've done really well. You've given him the most wonderful start in life that will stay with him as he grows.

Actually, weaning does cause a bit of a hormonal storm AFAIK (have yet to experience it myself... five years and counting). I remember Franny saying that she felt extremely wobbly for a few days.

Sending you big hugs. I was so ready when DS stopped but when he actually stopped I was so sad - cant please us can you. I think I didnt like the idea of him not wanting to lol - bit like not wanting an ex boyfriend but not wanting anyone else to have them either lol.

Anyway I told myself how lovely it was that he had chosen to stop - that he was happy and content and how he had loved this time. I hadnt had to force him or upset him in anyway - he was happy and had just moved onto the next stage having had all the breastmilk he wanted.

You've done such a fab job! And you can now look forward to feeding the next one...am loving it again with DD. Must remember to re read this when she stops lol.

Hormones do also play a role. I had pnd with DS which had lifted months and months before he stopped but came back in full force for about 2 weeks. Felt really terrible but people had warned me and I knew it would pass and it did. I still feel a little nostalgic and sad that he stopped but realise what a wonderful experience the whole thing was.
