Right - think i've now got mastitis

After a couple of days of DS (10 months) biting yesterday i stupidly cut down on his feeds and distracted him with water and food.

So by last night left boob really hurting - the actual boob not just the nipple. Today its agonising - i've taken ibuprofen and fed loads which is really painful.

So quick question - if its still painful tomorrow i'm guessing i need to go to drs and get some antibiotics? Am assuming they'll be able to give me ones which are compatible with bf.

Can't believe how hard bf has suddenly become 10 months in. Have never had mastitis before.

Yes - if it is hot and sore, probably is mastitis. Try hot flannels - they are very soothing. Also, keep feeding on that side and try feeding in a different position so that DS is the other way, i.e. his body is draped down your side, with his head under your arm - this can help clear the blocked duct that usually causes mastitis. If you need ABs, that is fine. I had them and carried on BF, no problem. Good luck.

do you have flu like symptoms? I had mastitis lots of times and it is awful. The doc can give you antibiotics which won't interfere with bfing, but I also got some homeopathic treatments which was very effective - phyto-lacca it's called.

I had mastitis when dd3 was 8 months old - for the first time ever. In my case it was after a very busy day just before Christmas and srtupidly forgetting which side I had fed from last so one side got double use and the other side got none iyswim. I had antibiotics which sorted it out with no impact on my supply and very little impacy on dd either - couple of nappies were rather horrid but that could just have been co-incidence!

Not even sure if it is mastitis. My boob isn't red or hot but feeding feels a bit like knifes are being inserted. Have also alrady got sinus/cold thing so not sure if i feel flu like or not. And don't have a temperature.

Am wondering if its just where he bit me and thats whats making me so sore.

Well i'm feeding loads and guess i better go to the dr's if its not better soon.

Thanks for your replies.
