If I go away for 5 days will I be able to resume BF when 5 get back?

DD is 8 months and BFs 6am and 6pm with 2 bottles in the day as I am at work. I have been offered a job overseas for 5 days in december so DD will be 10 months old then. I am going to miss her so much but I need to money so will probably have to take the job. I will be so sad if I have to stop BF as well though.

Bumping for you. I am not sure whether you might be best to express (perhaps once a day)

I only feed in the mornings now (once) but if I miss the odd day it doesn't affect me or the milk supply in any way. She is 14 mths btw.

Take a pump, or just hand express in shower/bath. Are you worried about supply or DD not wanting it anymore?

Unless she is a bit "take it or leave it" re b/f (my dd1 was and she was ready to give up by 1 year) then I think your dd will be more than happy to resume once you return.
Re the expressing, I don't think you would need to spend ages like you would if expressing a full feed for a tiny baby.

Yes, I've done this at about the same age. You will need to express whilst you are away though - and if you are expecting to be able to hand express make sure you practice before. Otherwise you may end up like me - desperately searching for open shops in Dublin at 8am so I could get to my meeting with a shirt that didn't pop open and breast pads so I didn't have wet patches!

chipmonkey · 18/10/2008 19:19

OMG, Prufrock, did you find an open shop in Dublin at that hour?

cmotdibbler · 18/10/2008 19:46

No problem - just express morning and evening when you are away, and it'll be fine. I travel a lot for work, and kept bfing till DS was 23.5 months old - restarted travel when he was 6 months. He was more glad to see my norks than me I thought sometimes

Thanks for reassurances. I will take my expressing machine - it is collecting dust right now as I haven't used it for ages! I guess I am just feeling guilty about leaving her.

Omy, I just left 5 month old ds4 for 2.5 days. He was absolutely fine with my Mum and resumed bf within 10 seconds of my return!
