is this a sleepy cs baby or is bf just going well? feeling v.anxious!

DD is 7 days old and was born by planned cs.

She latched on straight away and within 48 hours the meconium had gone through her and since then she has done several mustardy poo's a day. She only feeds for 5 minutes (sometimes a bit less) every couple of hours. I have to rouse her to feed, but when she does she has a strong suck and seems to be swallowing lots. I think I might have a fast flow of milk as when she comes off the breast the milk is still pouring out, maybe she is getting all she needs in such a short feed?

She was weighed at 5 days old and had maintained her birth weight so there are no obvious problems. But I can't beleive that such short, infrequent feeds are going to work for much longer. I have tried taking her sleepy suit off to make her cooler to feed but it doesn't make any difference. I have also expressed some small amounts of milk as my breasts are so full she can't latch on very well.

Should I be worrying? Or just chill out a bit. I'm just a bit worried that she isn't really 'awake' yet after such a calm cs and we are going to have problems any day now . Thank you!

Hi Meglet sounds okay to me if she has maintained her birthweight and she is swallowing lots and pooing too!
But I am no expert... did you call a BF counselling line, maybe they will know more...

bluejelly I saw the bf counsellour at the hospital on Tuesday and she didn't have any concerns then, but I think I may call one in the morning just in case. I will see how DD goes tonight.

It does sound as if she is doing well Meglet if she is peeing/pooping and maintained birth weight.

I was worried about DS as he sleeps alot at night (basically through now at 3 weeks - well, 11pm ish until 5/6) and isn't a constant feeder like DS1 as but his weight has been bang on and he does tons of wet nappies and plenty of dirty ones. HV and MWs said it's fine, at first I was trying to wake him to feed but he just snuggled in and dozed off! So, if weight is fine, nappies are fine then I guess it's fine You'll know better over the next week when she is weighed again etc.

waffle DD is good at night so far. She fed at 10:30 last night, then woke up at 3:30, then slept 'til 7. I hope it carries on like this. She's being weighed on Monday so that will give me an idea whether she's feeding properly.

It sounds fine to me too. So long as she is pooing and has no less than 5 wet nappies per day I wouldn't worry. She could have been sleepy but usually not longer than 3 days, especially with a planned cs where no general aneastetic is used usually.
Just carry on as you have been. you are doing great.
LO will stay on longer if she wants more IME.

How are things today Meglet?

She seems to be feeding for a little longer, we managed an 8 minute feed today!! Dirty nappies are still coming thick and fast and she's alert so I can only assume there is nothing to worry about. I still have lots of milk so it's there when she wants it.

DS was like this, and I used to worry too, as he'd only feed for 5 mins at a time, and only ever off one breast.

I used to stress about him getting hind milk and all that, and also how all my friends babies seemed to be glued to their boobs for hours.

But he gained weight and grew and everything was fine - I can only assume I was a very efficient milk making machine!!!

He wasn't born by cs though, he was just a sleepy baby. Enjoy it while it lasts!!

update Good news. DD was weighed today and has gained 4oz from her birth weight. It seems I may be having a nice straightforward bf experience [faints].
