Sill question about giving a baby cool boiled water

Do I let the water cool in the kettle or in the cup/bottle? Trying to get DS to take a bottle or a cup and tired of throwing away bottles of expressed milk! How long does the water in the kettle stay sterile? Thanks!

if your lo is over 6 months then you dont have to boil the water as it is fine to give it straight from the tap from then.
