Hi,

Can you help? Friend is experiencing problems BF DC3 (horrific problems with first two). Baby (7 days) still not latching on so purely bottle fed EBM. Question is about how long you can exclusively express and when you can reintroduce breast without causing confusion. I was v lucky and have only had great BF experience so I am not really sure how I can best support my pal.

I remember about 6 months ago there were some great posts which included guidance and a link to a website in the US. But my searches are bringing up 500+ hits so pointing me in the right direction would be great.

you can exclusively express indefinitely, but it can be hard work, esp mimicking growth spurts etc.

if she wants to breastfeed then she should keep offering breast before every feed.

Thanks everyone, I remebered the site as soon as I saw it.

I am not really sure what is going tbh. I think there is a lot of fear: PND and severe mastitis after DC1 (born by ECS), and mastitis again after DC2. Not sure what the precise problem was with either. I haven't seen friend in person - we are at opposite ends of the country so talk on the phone. I know she had some BF advice before but TBH from what is described it was hectoring and she ended up upset and guilty about the whole thing. I just want to support her without making her feel under pressure - letting her do the researching in private is more her thing I think.
